Christopher Bailey has hit the nail on the head, literally. Sending out trenches, baby doll dresses, and blouses covered in metal grommets and stud-like materials, it was Bailey’s usual offering of refinement, this time served up with a blatant edge.

Like many others this season, he played with volume, but in a much more controlled manner than we have seen in the past via shift dresses, bubble jackets, and sleeves. In fact, Mr. Bailey focused great attention to the sleeves, sending out everything from slightly-belled sleeves to cocooned-arm holes and even pleated elbows. After 1001 version of the bubble skirt, it is refreshing to see volume done in a much more flattering, and wearable, way.

The collection also made a strong argument for metallics - think a sea-blue shimmery shift dress to silver, strappy wedges. Personally, I could have done without the army of metallics, but it worked well in breaking up the surprisingly ladylike tone of some looks. So What? Another solid collection from Mr. Bailey, proving, once again, why he is the man for Burberry.
