Jil Sander S/S 2007 Milan


For his second collection at Jil Sanders, Raf Simons kept things bold, bright, and graphic. While others in Milan returned to the 80’s this season, Simons stayed true to the minimalist Sander aesthetic with a collection so 90’s-inspired, I expected to see Rachel Green when I turned on my TV.

The young Belgian sent out solid hues of shocking yellow, grass green, and bright orange, while keeping the silhouette streamlined and clean - the Jil Sander signature. This season, he relaxed things slightly via pulled, free-flowing dresses in sold hues. Simple? Of course. But don’t deny they don’t look remarkably fresh amongst all the complicated prints of late.

The dash of metallic, an unavoidable trend this season, confirmed that style should never be compromised in the face of natural evolution. Personally, I also find something completely honest in saying true to form, rather than succumbing to the headline-grabbing, premeditated design reversals that are as much about shock-tactics than shifts in thought. What does that mean? Oh, you know, a plain Sander’s dress paired with Navajo-inspired, metallic, fringed sandals from _ _ _ _ _ …
