Karl Lagerfeld S/S 2007 Paris

There are some seasons when it seems that Lagerfeld wears himself too thin between Fendi, Chanel, and his own labels. This season seems to be gearing up, or rather, dwindling down, to one of those seasons. For his Karl Lagerfeld S/S 2007 collection in Paris, the eccentric, meticulously-coiffed designer sent down a very Chanel-looking collection of black and white baby dolls, chiffon-gowns and tiers of fabric. On top of that, some of the shirts dresses with the accompanying ties recalled Elbaz’s F/W 06 collection for Lanvin.

Trend-wise, the looks were right on key, with dramatic ballooned sleeves, flashes of leather via a cummerbund or as an entire sack dress, and an overall short, graphic silhouette. This is the kind of stuff that will do very well at retail, but I think he failed to really move forward this season and tell us something new. And frankly, I expect something new from the madness that is Mr. Lagerfeld.
