Alber Elbaz has been on a roll at Lanvin, sending out chic, Parisian dresses like they were nothing. This season Elbaz seems to have turned from this tried-and-true aesthetic and sent out a defiantly glamorous, 80’s collection. It was right in step with his season’s trends - think satin shirt dresses, metallic minis, and shiny PVC-looking fabrics in various incarnations.

The photo print dresses didn’t work as well as some of the other pieces, but I think it was an important part of moving the house forward. Sure, some will argue that Mr. Elbas has betrayed his signature aesthetic with this collection, but stagnancy is like death in fashion and boredom is the root cause of it all. And I don’t think you can call this broing, or ugly for that matter, in any way…
