Tom Ford is dished a lot of crap. Yes, he is cocky and boastful. Yes, he pushed the boundaries of sex into distasteful territories with both his runway show and his ad campaigns (Can anyone ever forget the G-shaped pubic hair?). Yes, Yves Saint Laurent hated nearly everything he did for the house. That said, I think it’s interesting when you compare some of Ford’s latter work at YSL (Spring 2003-Fall 2004) with the Spring/Summer 2007 Yves Saint Laurent collection by Stefano Pilati. The sheer tops, pasties, fishnet stockings, and plexi-glass heels, similar much? While all these are references to the work of the great Yves himself, I don’t know if there is that much of a difference between the two.
Yet, Ford gets labeled a “sleaze” and Pilati gets the praises of reviving French style and doing complete justice to the house. While I’m not downplaying the huge influence and brilliance of Pilati, I simply don’t think it’s fair to disregard Ford’s work at the house. To add to that, I don’t care if we are in a state of “Muslimized” fashion - fashion is always connected to sex and Ford knew that better than anyone.

I always thought Tom Ford was a good time…I love your blog Adrian, and am glad you update so freaking often!
Tom Ford embodies sex. and somehow he is the embodiment of the finel ine between classy and trashy. Pilati’s Ford references might be purely coincidental…or not. Where is this blabber going, not sure. But i have always thought that Karen E. was too good to be a real person.
