Now that the skinny has become the IT-pant of the season, all the trendsetters are on the hunt for the next big thing to hit the pant world. It is a premeditated move? Of course, but so is the entire trend of aggressiveness and hardness that has conquered the runways; simply a counter-tend to Prada’s refined lady look?
That said, my bet is on the harem pant. Stefano Pilati has showed them two seasons in a row at YSL and Giorgio Armani did them a few seasons back. For one, it is a natural evolution from the bubble hemlines that we have seen on dresses and skirts. Secondly, they remind me of the very popular cargos-and-heels trend a few years back, but with the class factor amped up. The added plus? In addition to beautiful movement, harem pants possess the ever-so-important ability to showcase great shoes.
The only downside? Every time you walk by anyone over the age of 40, don’t be surprised if they cross their arms, give you a wink, and ask “Barbara Eden?”

I picture harem pants as really hard to pull off, but Style Scout did snap one pair of hot marc jacobsy look that included them (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/307/3939/1600/Italian-Girl.1.jpg).
