Here is the fall/winter 2008 mens Gucci collection by Frida Giannini. Frankly, instead of slaughtering an entire heard of long-haired animals, she might as well have sent out of a collage of photos entitled, “Playboy Through the Years”, along with the sticker: Will Reproduce at High-cost upon Order!
From cliched dandy to full-on fur-clad porn star, Giannini produced some of the ugliest hand bags ever to see a Gucci runway – this time with unauthentic-looking crests and oversized sportswear-inspired logos – truly questioning my belief in whether she was the one behind the Flora collection.
To be fair, individual pieces, like the slim cut tartan trousers and fitted cardigans looked smart, but for the most part, this shamefully luxurious collection left me asking, “John Ray? Mr. Rayyy….Will you come back? Please, pretty please!” and earning Giannini what I’ve dubbed the “Galliano Effect”: a slightly subdued sense of respect for the complete ignorance of taste for the respective menswear collections.
