Burberry Prorsum Fall/Winter 2007/2008

Diagonally seamed and piped, in vermillion crocodile, and richly embroidered textile. At the house that founded itself on a belted, double-breasted piece of outerwear, it’s quite fitting that Burberry’s designer, Christopher Bailey, serves up his strongest offerings in the outerwear department.

For fall, he delivered an indubitably subversive, if slightly lascivious, collection that suggested a darker, more assertive persona than we’ve come to expect of the Burberry woman. There were thigh-high patent leather boots with matching opera-length gloves, multi-buckle Alaia-esque belts that recalled corsetry, and a enchantingly dangerous sequined metallic mini on Georgia Frost. The overall silhouette was a play between the short - tiny minis, cropped jackets with shawl collars - and the long - bum-grazing cable knits and balloon-hemmed parkas with ruching, frills, and romantic pleating.

This season, the Burberry woman is delivering a strong message. And trust me, we’re all ears.
