At the risk of sounding irreversibly affected, Dries Van Noten is the closest thing to a fashion poet. His ability to capture moods, not so much looks, which he decodes into desirable pieces season after season, is the stuff of fashion folktale.
For fall/winter 2007, that mood was quietly luxurious casualness. With a simple, lose but lean silhouette, he was aligned with other designers who made the season’s statements with the fabrics and textiles. There were wonderful quilted, funnel neck parkas paired with spice-coloured embroidered silk sheaths, both worn with equal amounts of ease. Pants were pleated and ballooned, while skirts and dresses were swiftly gathered as if the models had been swaddled in the most sumptuous of fabrics moments before the show. It is this ability to suggest such luxury without copious amounts of fur or bling that signal the work of a true master.
Simply put, another solid collection from one of the best.
