Lanvin Fall/Winter 2007/2008

If last season saw the Lanvin woman boarding a spacecraft on her voyage to new galaxies, this season she kept her destination decidedly more local, although not without the help of a time machine to revisit (parts of) the decadent decade. Come fall, Elbaz suggested a return to focus, reflected in the edited colour palette of solely black/white/navy with shots of purple and a striking Venetian red and the inescapable linearness of it all.

With a haphazardly chopped black banged bob, the Lanvin woman was a manifested prowess of power. If previous assertions weren’t enough, this collection cemented the return of the 80s power shoulder. It came on belted jackets, simple satin sheaths, and prim blouses, often roughly studded along seams suggesting this is a woman that won’t budge easily. It was balanced with a volume at the hip - an exaggerated hip bone proposition that’s become quite directional this season. Sophisticated romance came via blouses with tulip-like collars and plastic brooches of various flowers.

Even if lacking some of the editorial inspiration of previous offerings, it was classic Lanvin done well. And when we’re discussing Elbaz, I recognize this may very be an understatement.
