Alberta Ferretti Cruise 2008

When discussion circles around Alberta Feretti, you have to question the validity of the whole Cupid-as-winged-cherub-thing. And while I make no guaranties of Ferretti’s personal matchmaking capabilities, her observation of the romantic is eerily Cupid-ic in nature. For her Cruise 2008 collection, she spun preppy cruisewear basics - shirt dresses, cocktail dresses, pleated shorts - into elevated delights, the kind of clothes a modern Fitzgerald woman might select for a languid Sunday afternoon. Signature Ferretti chiffon was folded and beaded at the bust, while the pragmatic short belied its utilitarian essence, cut with the fluidity of a mini. For the most part, novelty focused on the waist - a softly tied ribbon hugged the hips, creating the iconic dropped waist and nautical-inspired dresses were cinched high on the torso with silver buckled belts - adding weight to the otherwise lofty silhouette.

Once again, Feretti confirms her role as the purveyor of all things beautiful; the kind of designer whose allure lines in Awwws, rather than Ahhhs.
