Stella McCartney Resort 2007/2008

Since becoming a mother, Stella McCartney has tactfully eschewed the “rock chic” tagline she had famously, and righteously, earned as a neophyte at Chloe; pineapple tees and crystal-adorned hipster trousers made it difficult to argue with critics who overruled her contentions without self-reproach. Though things have been changing. Now with the Resort 2007/2008 collection, she acts to further cement her stake in the working woman’s wardrobe.

For daywear, she presented speacial incarnations of modern staples: a khaki military jacket, oversized cardigans with gold thread, high waist sailor trousers, blouson-sleeved day shifts. They are the type of pieces that while precocious, never veer into precious, or - day I say it - pretentious.

For after hours, short and cocktail length party dresses were plentiful, the standouts being a scallop-hemmed dove gray shift and a strapless gold metallic mini with draped bodice. Perhaps not “rock chic” in the most literal sense, but surely desirable additions to any young women’s closet. An assertion I presume Stella would gladly welcome.
