Another year where we will all complain about the lack of risks, scoff at the increasingly sculpted, Madonna-esque arms of the starlets (Zellweger, Diaz?), and collectively sigh at at the mild missteps - after all, stylists have guaranteed relatively tepid falters - of our favorites (Nicole and Cate?). In any case, here is my Best Dressed. Or, this year, I prefer to dub this ‘(Relatively) Most Inspiring’. Frankly, all the dresses left me a bit underwhelmed. And yest, that is CD in Dior by Galliano. I’ve covered her face - for my own dignity, that is.

Haha…you are quite funny! I agree with your choice of Marion in JPG–truly inspiring indeed!
At least Cameron Diaz left her neck bare of any cumbersome, turquoise jewelry…
Marion Cotillard’s dress was unique and amazing - loved it. But I’m with you - the bulk of them were just blah. (thank you for covering CD’s face - can’t someone do something with that hair???)
I agree lame Oscars. Blame it on the ridiculous Coen Bros. Marion Cotillard totally best dressed. Kidman’s necklace was great too. Blanchett was beautiful. You cant expect them pregnant women to look like 15 year old models!
In a way it’s good that fashion and emotional moments didnt steal the night from its main purpose: film, but the show left something to be desired, either a mind-blowing dress or a Halle Berry-like speech (Marion was close, but didnt thank Piaf…Oh well…).
Bisous mon ami.
I blame Marchesa. Yes their dresses are beautiful; but oh so boring. And suddenly every god damned LA starlet has a dress which (as you so eloquently pointed out Adrian) shows of their pilates toned arms, and won’t throw them onto the weeklie’s worst dressed lists.
This has depressed me almost as much as Milan Fashion Week. Lets hope Paris can give us something fabulous and original or I shan’t be held responsible for my actions.
oh dear… this was the most boring indeed, not that anyone in particular looked ravishingly beautiful, but also, that no one looked incredibly bad either.
Thank God I’m not the only one who thought CD’s dress was one of the best–apparently the so-called Oscar Fashion people called Anne Hathaway and Jessica Alba’s Marchesa creations “stunning.” Blech. Personally, Cate Blanchett was Best Dressed for me–she may have been pregnant, but she definitely sold that dress.
the JPG dress was by the far the best. Overall, i felt it very Prom, albeit with more expensive gowns. Safe, predictable, and boring. It’s probably because of the recently ended writers strike. i hear the academy actually sends memos telling the stylist to “tone it down” depending on whats happening in the world/news/etc.
i did love the dress but i just cannot get passed CD
what was up with all the red??
