The 2009 American Music Awards gave us a few nice surprises but no stand out winner this year, but we did love the pop of color we saw.
Alicia Keys wins this week, because we never usually see her in quite a cool ensemble. Often seen in Giorgio Armani, it was so surprise she chose to modify a piece from the Italian designer’s Spring 2010 collection for the red carpet. The origami pleats and burst of blue’s that gave her a fresh and fun look.
Rihanna has a flair for drama, but this time she disappointed me. The Spring 2010 Marchesa gown looked like it could have come from a Project Runway ‘make a dress out of paper’ challenge (albeit not by the designers from season 6) thanks to the black outer and white inner. It looks like a DIY snowflake/origami project. It doesn’t help that she paired the dress with very dowdy looking white shoes.
Shakira has turned it up a notch in the fashion stakes with this Versace Spring 2010 yellow mini dress, showing that cut-out’s don’t always look so bad *cough*Rihanna*cough*. The silver geometric lines paired with the triangle cut outs gave the dress shape but the sexy singer lost a lot of points because of her platform heels.
