I personally know so many fashion bloggers who blog more for the love than for the money and fame. But not everyone thinks that fashion bloggers are the next wave of media. 27-year-old British fashion designer Christopher Kane told Vogue UK that he thinks it’s all a bit mad:
“It’s a bit mad, isn’t it? It feels like it’s happened all of a sudden and at some shows this season the front row was just all bloggers. I think it will die down though, and people know what they are doing. No one who wants to read a serious review of a show is going to look at what a 14-year-old thinks. But it has become more critical; people can say what they want about anyone on a blog without consequences and that’s quite scary. There are real repercussions for a designer if a photo of something is leaked by a blog; it can be copied in a fortnight and that can really harm a business. You have to be much more careful now.”
Let’s just say it, the 14-year-old remark was aimed at Tavi Gevinson of Style Rookie who’s been one of the most hyped about bloggers during New York Fashion Week this past September. But it’s all a bit harsh isn’t it? Fashion bloggers aren’t out to ‘get’ designers, blogs are our own interpretations and thoughts on fashion.

I agree with you on this post and disagree with Kane’s viewpoint about fashion bloggers – I may be biased because I am one. Nevertheless, what Kane fails to address/acknowledge is that there are many creditable bloggers out there with work experience and deep seeded knowledge about fashion who take it very seriously – many who are over the legal age and have lived life.
I just think Kane needs to be educated in social media and get to know some fashion blogger before dismissing us as a short-lived trend – we’re here to stay.
