  The unrecognizable - some sneered catalogue - models were a questionable move. For Cruise 2008, Valentino opted against using big name model faces, ultimately leaving the audience with the ho-hum task of critiquing a largely nondescript collection, save for a handful of vernal minis and red carpet shoe-ins.   The Chanel jet was a blaring precursor to what was to come: the ultimate in luxury marred, at least at times, by frivolous branding. Granted, this is a cruise collection, which means that sellable brashness is not as dirty a concept as it is with ready-to-wear. And sellable brash there was - think unisex sequined smokings, candy-coloured jumpers, denim festooned with airplanes. That said, Lagerfeld bears the aplomb of a true visionary, enough to make you legitimately second guess your predisposed reservations to kitsch-friendly denim hotpants and Chanel logo necklaces.   Be patient, as Cruise pictures don't seem to hit the Net with the light speed velocity of RTW shows. I'll reserve my final comments until I see the full set of pictures. Decoding a Karl for Chanel collection based on a handful of pictures matches the difficulty of predicting the ending of a (early) Shyamalan work.Who was there? Demi Moore, Diane Kruger, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Claudia Schiffer, Victoria Beckham, Jessica Alba and Lindsay Lohan. How fitting?   When discussion circles around Alberta Feretti, you have to question the validity of the whole Cupid-as-winged-cherub-thing. And while I make no guaranties of Ferretti's personal matchmaking capabilities, her observation of the romantic is eerily Cupid-ic in nature. For her Cruise 2008 collection, she spun preppy cruisewear basics - shirt dresses, cocktail dresses, pleated shorts - into elevated delights, the kind of clothes a modern Fitzgerald woman might select for a languid Sunday afternoon.
