There is something unfortunately telling that the words "beaded" and "necklace" - when placed adjacently - likely conjure up images of annoying 15-year-olds in pink gypsy skirts and bug-eyed glasses. In other words, the worst of 2005. But the inspiring work of NY-based jewelry designer Sharyn Wolf (www.sharynwolf.com) highlights the pitfalls of those dated "What Not to Wear" doctrines. Here is some of her work in the "Parka Avenue" editorial, featuring model Gemma Ward, in the February 2007 issue of American Vogue. While Bowery did produce his own elaborately designed and beaded customes, they were never produced on a larger scale. As such, we'll call him an artist, though truth be told, he was probably more of an overall creative genius than anything.
