4. Rodarte New York’s romantics, Laura and Kate Mulleavy, explored a fantasy vs. reality dialogue for Fall 2008. Although “monologue” seems a more apt description, the sisters proving the old adage true: reality is stranger – and darker – than fiction. So while they ventured into the fantastical, whipping up diaphanous chiffons and luxuriously dilapidated knits in washed-out pastels, the overall effect was grounded in blood-drenched reality. This season I decided to switch things up. So instead of starting with the bottom half of my Top 10 Fall/Winter 2008 collections, I’ll start with la crème de la crop. Why, you ask? Was I inspired by the reverse antics of Martin Margiela via Marc Jacobs? You’d expect it would be that complicated, but it’s not.
