  Kerry Washington in Louis Vuitton Fall 2008. Take away the devo hats, modify the 3-D details, and rid of the weedy young girls with thick brows and you're left with well-made prom dresses. Margherita Missoni in Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2008. Margherita may be the obscenely rich everygirl, but she's not the girl for this dress. Lou Doillon in Armani Prive at the "Palermo Shooting" premiere in Cannes, France. To describe this as "effortless" would somehow bastardize the disheveled prettiness (thesaurus, anyone?) of the the look. Hence, just observe. Photos: TFS

  Michelle Monaghan in Versace Fall 2008. In the past I've brushed off Versace as bedizened, pin money clothing at its worst. This makes me reconsider. Lily Donaldson in Balmain. It doesn't get much better than this - an English girl in the French house do jour. Dita Von Teese in Christian Dior.   Eva Herzigova at the "Che" premiere in Dior. It has all the elemnts of a cookie-cutter Cannes look - a long train, lace, a distasteful helping of diamonds - but here it somehow becomes  daring. Doutzen Kroes, also at the "Che" premiere wearing Versace. I'm putt off when girls dress according to how "pretty" there are. Ludivine Sagnier at the "Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull" premiere during the Cannes Film Festival. I think the proper term for this look is "American starlet". Photos: TFS

  Celebrities in Prada: Angela Lindvall, Angie Harmon, Erin Wasson

  Angela Lindvall tackles clashing prints, pairing the tunic with the cropped pant. Kudos to her, but the beanie takes it from forward to over-the-top. Angie Harmon wearing Lara Stone's outfit from the Spring show. Even Ms. Harmon pales against Ms. Stone's angular features, which makes the entire look relatively more drab. Erin Wasson is one of the Olsens, just with a few added feet and strategically placed melanin. So it's no surprise that she's the coolest in show.   Carine & Julia Restoin-Roitfeld at the A/W 08 shows in Paris. Julia teases in this sometimes harsh, but here sultry, pairing of black and red. Meanwhile Carine is definitively Parisienne in Italian (Prada, that is). Sophia Coppola at the Fendi party in Paris. Classic Sophia. Dita Von Teese, also in Paris. The top half is that truly difficult-to-achieve perfection of masc/fem.  If only we could say the same for the pants. If only we could see them on Taryn Davidson. Photos: TFS
