Designers, Retail (1)Here are some new pics from Raf's Fall/Winter 2007 Raf by Raf Simons line. As you may be aware, Raf assumes a very special place in my heart. And while I'm quite enthusiastic to the idea of metallic pants, the distressing details leave me with a bad D & G-esque taste in my mouth. They look like the knd of pants you'd see on over-the-hill gay guys citing Cher and Madonna as fashion icons.Old Sicilian salami, anyone? While Lovely played up Parker's sweet personality, the marketing team behind Covet seems to be tapping into the consumer insight: The public can't get enough of Carrie Bradshaw. Retail, Salty Snacks for the Fashionables (1)The Toronto Star (http://www.thestar.com/Life/article/204652) is reporting that the Telecaster Services of the Television Bureau of Canada has banned Chanel's Rouge Allure tv ad featuring Julie Ordon sprawling around bed in her birthday suit, reminiscent of Bardot in Le Mepris. Frankly, it's quite surprising. While our American counterparts quickly turned down Dove's recent spots showing mature women with strategically placed limbs, it seemed to be of no issue to us Northerners. Obviously we're not as liberal - or as appreciative of beauty, it seems - as I had thought.

Designers, Retail (1)While simultaneous use of the words "Dolce" and "Gabanna" is enough to incite an expansive bodily rash, I must admit that these ads are funny without being - as the industry says - "creative masturbation". In one, a hefty maid is transformed into a tempting, heeled vamp; in another, a lanky nerd-cum-police officer becomes a Latin lover. Both thanks to some magical D & G glasses.I don't know if these commercials are recent or from 2004. But I suppose that's the one redeeming value of the brand - consistency in owning the "vacuous but vulgar" catgeory.

Models and Stuff, Retail (3)Based upon what I've seen so far, it's all about the dresses. Sure, there are some skinnies, vests, and Sgt. Pepper-esque jackets, but look at these dresses. The first is very Versace and the third somewhat nondescript, but the last one on Irina is manifested perfection for, what, under 100 pounds? That said, it will likely be so discernible I wonder if it's even worth it.Photos: frillr.com
