“Just because they’ve [Londoners] found a way toclash as many colours and patterns as possible does not mean London is a fashion
capital. Whatever is happening across the pond is not revolutionary, it’s
tasteless. London can’t compare to the true sophistication of Paris.”
- Carine Roitfeld

she’s right.
Agreed, for the most part. London has nothing on Paris in terms of sophistication or history, but it’s an undeniable hotbed for innovative street style and originality. So fashion capital? No. Important force in the industry right now? Definately. And I don’t think that’s something that Carine should completely ignore…as much as I adore the woman.
she is not right: paris has a “formal” aproach to fashion that is OLD, romatic and totally ignores posmodernity. The city is gorgeous, but architecture is not culturally relevant to make Paris avant garde. She is just afraid of loosing power….evn when using the visula power of MM. BOOHOO.
Thank you!
This quote isn’t even real, is it? Carine would never be so crass as to say something like this.
Yuck. This makes me really dislike her. And I’m not even British.
I’ve never understood what people like about her anyway. She’s a Snob with a capital S.
she is old: loosing her edge.
Did Carine REALLY say that? Or is it just poorly translated French? It seems an unlikely put-down, unless she was being a bit sarcastic.
Oh come off it guys, it was made up by Isabel on Hipster Musings as a hypothetical article to mark the end of her journalism course. She stated as much on her blog, I’m sure she didn’t think people would assume it was real and go off on Ms Roitfeld for it.
