A little carefree in pastels at the 2010 Emmy Awards

In the sea of body hugging and form fitting dresses, Keri Russell was a breath of fresh air in this Vintage Scherrer dress from Decades. Casual but beautifully vintage, she complimented her look perfectly with her sun kissed make up, side up-do and the strappy gold sandals and gold clutch. But our question is, is it too casual?

Oh dear, who made Emily Blunt into a pastel dream? The usually bold and beautiful actress almost lost us when we spotted her in this Christian Dior gown. Yes it’s pretty, but it’s almost better for a bridesmaid dress. Maybe she’s trying to re-wear a dress she had her own bridesmaids wear to her recent wedding? It’s pretty, but we expect much better and bolder for Emily.

Christina Hendricks… we love you, really. But this dress is a little frou frou. What happened to something bold and absolutely breathe taking? Not that this Zac Posen isn’t amazing. It’s just not giving us that va-va-voom we’re use to seeing from you on the red carpet.

They’re trying…

As I before, the first three ladies would be a tough act to follow and I was right. Not the these three beautiful blonde women weren’t trying on the red carpet of the 2010 Emmy Awards. I must give Anna Pacquin snaps for wearing Alexander McQueen on the red carpet, but unfortunately this stunning gown does nothing for her figure. Her torso looks wide and short while her YSL pumps are too chunky for this dress. Extra salt shaker for wearing McQueen though.

Meanwhile I’m so bored of Heidi Klum wearing a figure hugging mini dress on the red carpet (its almost as bad as the endless Herve Leger bandage dresses on the VS Angels). We get it, you have an amazing body, but perhaps you should keep it to yourself unless you’re on the Victoria’s Secret runway or for a fashion shoot. This Marchesa mini dress is cute and sexy, but come one Heidi, we’ve seen this look on you one too many times. Surely with your little black book you could have conjured up something much more breathe taking.

Last of these ladies is January Jones. I read somewhere that when she makes public appearances she aims to look as un-Betty Draper like as possible. Which is good, because her character is a downright b&^ch right now. She pulled off this non-Betty look in a stunning Versace dress but it was missing a bit of something something. The plain black shoes did nothing for her look, but we do like her hair and make up. It helps that she is a former model huh?

Flowing and Grecian.

These three ladies did not let me down on the red carpet at the 2010 Emmy Awards today. Not often know for their style prowess, we loved seeing Kim Kardashian in a beautiful white Marchesa dress. While it didn’t do wonders for her curves (we think it made her look bigger) it was flowing and Grecian. The perfect compliment to her curvaceous figure.

Not often seen on the red carpet is Lauren Graham, but I love her. First in The Gilmore Girls and now in Parenthood. I love that she has taken a risk with this Yigal Azrouel gown. The contrast between black and white is perfectly offset with the thigh high split that is subtle but perfectly placed. And lastly we have Rose Byrne look every inch a Greek goddess in this Gucci gown. Sure we’ve seen it around in the last few months but the dress is stunning and Rose looks stunning in it.

The next three sets of images will have a lot to live up to.

Dasha Zhukova obviously wants to be known as more than just the girlfriend and baby mama of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich and since her appointment as editor of POP magazine, she has been trying to break the traditional boundaries. First she featured teen blogging sensation Tavi Gevinson as the cover girl, now she’s turn to Japanese Harijuki-esque culture and Britney Spears. No doubt Britney was up for doing the cover as she’s in another series of image overhauls when she agreed to the Takashi Murakami art-directed cover, which was shot by Todd Cole. The cover was suppose to be a sartorial look at Britney’s first single ‘Baby One More Time’ and her school-girl imagery in the film clip, but it all feels a little dated for me. Britney, at 27 years old, was the wrong choice for this cover.

What do you think?

We all know Justin Timberlake as the singer / performer. Then he created a denim line called William Rast a few years ago. Then last year he was signed on to front Givenchy’s mens fragrances. In 2010, he’s been unveiled as the co-face of Givenchy‘s new womens fragrance Play together with Noot Seear. Photographed by Tom Munru, we’re not entirely impressed with this first look. It’s a womens wear fragrance and Noot isn’t exactly enticing us to want to buy Play – unless of course we get Timberlake on our arm. What do you think?

Animal print and Dolce & Gabbana go hand in hand, much like Scarlett Johansson does with pouty red lips and figure hugging clothes. Well they all come together in the latest Dolce & Gabbana Beauty Fall 2010 ad campaign. Well they all come together in a ad campaign campaign which sees ScarJo turning into a bit of a vamp with dark lips, smokey eye makeup and black biker gear. “We wanted to discover a look that truly reflects our ‘story’ from the very beginning-yet truly reflects our reverence for today’s women, epitomized, of course by the divine Scarlett,” said Stefano Gabbana. “It addresses what’s so ineffable about a woman-her fierce sensuality anchored by her innermost femininity,” added Domenico Dolce.

And they’re ringing it in with their 300th issue featuring Kate Moss, Lady Gaga and Naomi Campbell – three of the fiercest women in fashion and celebrity culture right now. All three were photographed by one of my favourite phototgraphers, Nick Knight.
About 3 – 4 years ago now, Henry Holland stormed the fashion scene with his quirky and cheeky slogan tshirts. “Do Me Daily Christopher Bailey”, “Cause Me Pain Hedi Slimane” and “Wham Bam Thank You Stam” are just an example of three he made up and printed 80′s style in bright colours and bold fonts. Well we may be a little older and wiser, but it printed tshirts are still pretty chic and represent the basics you wear around when running chores on the weekend or catching up with a friend one lazy Sunday afternoon. While we love Henry Holland’s House of Holland, we actually have more fun creating our own custom tee shirts on CafePress, or buying one of their geek-chic Cafepress humor tshirt’s. For something a little more fancy (aka with some actual though behind the prints) try Tcritic blog‘s CafePress store. We love it and we think you will too.
