When it comes to Karl Lagerfeld, you almost get the sense that the resort explosion was bespoken for him. With each of his three main collections often a pastiche of ideas, 70 looks seem virtually numbing to his creativity. So it’s quite surprising that his 2008 resort collection for Fendi was low on new concepts - albeit high on hemlines. Focusing on black, white, and chocolate, with shots of turquoise and electric yellow, he offered up easy day dresses, Ch***el-inspired cardis and suits, and logo-heavy beachwear for Fendi’s insolent clientele. What was new - the peaked, exaggerated shoulder that came on a black dress and white shirt vest - looked hard-handed in the lot.

You’re right, beachwear seems a little too logo-loco. Maybe this is the return of the monogram canvas? I’ve always loved the little Gucci purse. On the collection itself, I think there’s a lack of a theme, and Fendi always has a theme. But that’s what a Resort collection is about, isn’t it? Ignoring the brand’s foundations.
