F/W 2008 Runways Shows

Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 2007/2008 PREVIEW

The Marc Jacobs path is always a solitary one. As one of the few visionaries of New York, his shows are almost always the most influential and, accordingly, the most controversial. In other words, no one does Marc Jacobs when Marc is doing Marc Jacobs.
Come fall, his bejwelled aviator princess of spring has been transformed into a red lip-wearing woman. It’s a look that hints at the glamour of the 80s, the categorical refinement of the 30s, and an all-out homage to vintage YSL. It was a message sent loud and clear: Grunge be gone, sophistication and old-school glamour officially return! Big, boxy shoulders, wide-brimmed hats, and sequins. It’s still retro, but instead of frills and adornment, its a rigorous lession in graphicism and precision-tailoring.
A 360 turn like this could have been seen coming a mile away. This season, when everyone else is doing Marc Jacobs (circa 2006), the master himself had to move on. Just how exactly, is part of his genius.

(Though my prediction is this recent Vogue Italia cover featuring Agyness had something to do with it!)
