Maybelline model Josie Maran is set to launch her own cosmetics line that will be both organic and environmentally-friendly. Which “Guess the Bandwagon1″ game do you want to play first?
Jessica Simpson showed her first swimwear collection on a runway (yes, I know) in Miami this past week. It looked more like a promo video for Girls Gone Wild than a runway show, but what is Miss Simpson without a heaping of T and a serving of A? Watch at own risk.
International tennis star Boris Becker has signed on to be the new face of Polo Ralph Lauren. Dubbed ‘Bobele’ by the German press, I think an American player would have spoken to the American heritage of the brand. Although my faith in integrated branding in fashion all but desiccated when Lindsay shot for Miu Miu.
Vogue reports that Henry Holland from HOH and model Agyness will be launching a jewelery line. He says, “You can expect a bit of House of Holland in it and a bit of Aggy too - she’s got a strong sense of design.” I suspect it will be modern day costume jewelry: Pint-sized teddy bears and bright plastic beads beware,
Irina Lazareanu (left) has said she and equivocally platonic Sean Lennon might perform in the U.K.’s Glastonbury Festival in June. It was at Glastonbuy where Lazareanu’s good friend, Kate Moss, immortalized a pair of muddied Wellies and hotpants. Whether Irina’s music or signature androgynous fashion choices will earn top prize is left to be seen. Place your bets now. Jordance jeans has replaced Liz Hurley (right) with Project Runway’s Heidi Klum as the face of its ad campaign. While some reports say red carpet politics are at play dirivng the switch, I’m guessing when the execs saw only the white pairs moving, they knew a change was needed.
FWD is reporting that GAP has enlisted 2006 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners Doo-Ri Chung of Doo.Ri, Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, and Thakoon’s Thakoon Panichgul to designer a special, limited-edition white shirt to be sold in stores. Finally, Gap is doing something right. Reducing its style ambiguity? Check. Consistent with its American heritage? Check. Enough to save this dying brand? Not without a comprehensive overhaul of the entire brand. Sorry guys.
NY-based label Rag & Bone, by Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, has been commissioned to design the uniforms for the staff at 6 Columbus hotel. Sounds great, but imagine a Wal-mart-shopping employee being tossed a uniform boasting “Rag and Bone” on the label. Doesn’t sound like employee appreciation is management’s top concern, now does it?
Singer Joss stone is on the upcoming issue of British Harper’s Bazaar sans nose ring and ghastly streaks (right). Has Stone opted for a more mature, grown-up image? Of course not. According to London’s Evening Standard, Bazaar has taken it upon themselves to airbrush the piercing and the streaks out. And frankly, I’m not complaining.
