FWD is reporting that GAP has enlisted 2006 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners Doo-Ri Chung of Doo.Ri, Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, and Thakoon’s Thakoon Panichgul to designer a special, limited-edition white shirt to be sold in stores. Finally, Gap is doing something right. Reducing its style ambiguity? Check. Consistent with its American heritage? Check. Enough to save this dying brand? Not without a comprehensive overhaul of the entire brand. Sorry guys.
NY-based label Rag & Bone, by Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, has been commissioned to design the uniforms for the staff at 6 Columbus hotel. Sounds great, but imagine a Wal-mart-shopping employee being tossed a uniform boasting “Rag and Bone” on the label. Doesn’t sound like employee appreciation is management’s top concern, now does it?
Singer Joss stone is on the upcoming issue of British Harper’s Bazaar sans nose ring and ghastly streaks (right). Has Stone opted for a more mature, grown-up image? Of course not. According to London’s Evening Standard, Bazaar has taken it upon themselves to airbrush the piercing and the streaks out. And frankly, I’m not complaining.
